General information

BACnet is an open communication protocol designed specifically for building automation. It works primarily on the Application Layer of OSI model and represents information as standardized objects with properties. Testing and certification of the correct implementation of services and objects ensures that devices behave exactly in accordance with the BACnet specification. This means that devices can be connected in the network in a plug-and-play manner and data exchange between devices from different manufacturers is possible without additional effort.

For detailed information about the BACnet specification refer to www.bacnet.org.

The BACnet capabilities of EMpro are described in the PICS document which can be downloaded from the

BTL Listing of Tested Products website and is also available for download from the Phoenix Contact website.

  1. Open phoenixcontact.net/products.
  2. Enter the order number of your energy measuring device into the search field.
  3. In the download area of the product, you will find the PICS document under "Application notes".

During commissioning a unique device ID and a unique device name should be assigned in the network.

  • The initial device name of EMpro consists of the model name and the serial number so that it is always unique
  • The initial device ID of Empro is always 4194303. This is not valid for ongoing operation and must be changed
